About us
Nabla IT Solutions is a company based in Lugano, Switzerland specialising
in IT Solutions and Support, Cloud Services, Web and CRM databases and helping
organizations to develop enterprise applications and high-availability
architectures.
The company has been founded by David La Monaca. With over 25 years of
experience in the IT industry, David has laid the foundation of a developing
IT support company that today provides services to a wide range of
commercial and non-commercial organizations including businesses, schools
and professionals.
Why Nabla?
Our company name and logo are inspired by the mathematical symbol "nabla", which is an operator
used in vector calculus. The symbol was named after the Greek word νάβλα that indicated a Hebrew harp.
What does a harp have to do with mathematics? More importantly, what does a harp have to do with our
IT company? The upside-down capital delta symbol came up in relation to mathematics through part of
private conversations between two giants in mathematics, Peter Guthrie Tait and James Clerk Maxwell.
They had fun using it in private, but were reluctant to adopt this symbol and its name because it didn’t
seem serious enough. Also the oldest written melody in history was performed on a nabla-shaped harp.
It is the 3400 year old "Hurrian Hymn no.6".
The most famous Nabla player in ancient biblical tradition is King David. Since David is our General
Manager, Nabla has then become his personal symbol and the name of his company!
